First Generation
1. John Frederick Mounce .
From the Rhineland (Germany) and settled in Philadelphia, PA in the
William Penn Colony. Their son, Matthias Mounce, was born, in
Philadelphia, Pa. He married Mary (Smith?). He was a masonry worker
and helped lay the first masonry stone in Philadelphia. Celia
(Mounce) Hunt stated that her grandfather, John Mounce, Sr. was born
in Germany (i.e. this may mean Germantown, PA where the Germans were
settled by the English Crown). He moved from Pa to VA and later to
Kentucky, prior to 1789 when he is found on Madison Co. tax lists
along with his eldest sons, John Mounce, Jr. and Matthias Mounce.
Both of these are on tax lists of Madison and Woodford Co.'s
Kentucky un 1789 and 1790 respectively. Matthias Mounce, John Mounce
and Absalom Mounce, three sons of John Frederick Mounce, had surveys
made in March, Spril and May of 1774 in Fincastle Co., Virginia.
These Loyal Company's grants were registered in Montgomery Co., VA.
John married Susanna Margaret Abel .

Second Generation
2. Matthias Mounce (John Frederick) was born in PA. He died on 10
Feb 1781 in Lincoln Co., KY.
Prior to 1779, he moved his family to Downing's Station, Kentucky.
Matthias Mounce, with wife Mary and family, along with James and
John Downing, Samuel Shelton, Asael Davis all lived at Downing's
Station which was near Fork Church and at the forks of Dick's (Dix)
River (present location is on Route 27, about 8 miles south of
Lancaster, Kentucky.) Scott's Settlement was below Downing's
Stations. Polly (Mounce) Collier and Betsy (Mounce) Finley stated
that their father was killed on Feb 10, 1781. James Alexander of Mt.
Sterling, Kentucky deposed that Matthias Mounce was killed by the
limb of a tree. His body was returned to Downing's Station. In the
Jun Court of 1784, Mary Mounce, widow of Matthias Mounce was
appointed adm. of his estate. James Smith and James Downing signed
her bond. App. Capt. John Allason, John Downing, Walter Dewitt.
Those who served were: James Montgomery, Walter Dewitt, Joseph
Daugherty. Bond returned Feb 1, 1785. Mary served as Adm. in Lincoln
Co., Kentucky. Matthias Mounce and Mary Montgomery; Attest: James
Downey, James Alexander; Bond: Samuel Finley. Their children moved
first to Gibson Co. Indiana and later, some moved to Iowa. Burkett
Hughes, John Mounce and Henry Mounce all stated that there were 9
children in this family. Matthias married Mary .

married Martha in 1781 in Madison Co., Kentucky (now Garrard Co.),
by Col. John Cowan, J.P. of Mercer Co. John was the oldest son and
under Virginia law, was entitled to all the lands of his father upon
father's death. John Mounce of Montgomery Co., Kentucky gave quit
claim deed to his father's estate, which he had not already
received, to his sisters: Betsy Finley and Polly Collier of Garrard
Co., Kentucky.
John married Martha Downing in 1781 in Madison Co., KY.

8 F iv. Mary Mounce . Mary married Moses Collier on 13 Nov 1793 in
Lincoln Co., KY.

10 F vi. Celia Mounce . (Both McAdams' Kentucky Pioneer and Court
Records, page 100 and Garrard Co., Marriage Records copied by Burns,
give this marriage in which clerk spells name of Celia Mounts and
Sealey Mounce and both give her mother's name as Mary Mounce, while
one brother, Henry Mounce. She was the aunt of Celia Mounts, born
1805 in Lincoln Co., Kentucky who married Capt. Jefferson Hunt in
Albion, Illinois, whose records are quoted about the Morman Treck.

He went into Kentucky with Gen. Logan. Absalom Mounts, William
Thompson and William Lockhart were appointed by court to survey
route of Public roads in Lincoln Co., Kentucky. Absalom Mounce
served in the Rev. War, Capt. Joseph Cloyd's Co., in 1777. He served
as a Pvt. and Ens. under Col.'s George Rogers Clarke and John
Bowman, Virginia Militia. He was killed by Indians in Lincoln Co.,
Kentucky; wife, Mary, was administrator. of estate in 1783, May
Court.

Matthias married Mary Montgomery on 28 Feb 1791 in Lincoln Co., KY.
Mary died in 1854 in Buffalo Township, Scott Co., IA. died in the
home of her youngest son. Mary was the daughter of Thomas and Martha
(Crockett) Montgomery (Thomas, Hugh, Robert, James who immigrated in
1666 from Ireland to the James River Colony, Virginia). Martha
Crockett was a first cousin of Davie Crockett, killed in the Alamo
in the Texas Rev. War. She was also a cousin of Gen. Montgomery, who
was killed at the battle of Quebec.
